I was fortunate to hear Madeleine Kerkhof - Knapp Hayes speak during 2016, first during an Alliance of International Aromatherapists teleseminar and then at the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy Conference in October, 2016. I had the opportunity to converse with Madeleine on and off during the course of the conference. Madeleine possesses a wonderful balance of charm, knowledge, expertise and devotion to her work. It is apparent when talking to her, hearing her enlightening and heartfelt presentations, and it is also most certainly present within Complementary Nursing in End of Life Care.

Madeleine Kerkhof-Knapp Hayes resides in the Netherlands. She possesses a strong background in nursing, aromatherapy, herbalism and hydrotherapy. Through her personal and professional experiences, she holds a gifted calling and desire to teach and inform about palliative and end of life complementary care. The About Me section of her book provides much more detail about her background and expertise.

Complementary Nursing in End of Life Care is a crucial book for health care practitioners, aromatherapists, educators and all of those that provide palliative and end of life patient care. It addresses essential oil usage and safety for numerous applications while also addressing other complementary modalities including massage and aquacare. Madeleine's expertise, insights and compassion is present throughout the book's 412 pages.

About This Book, From the Back Cover

This book is written for professionals in palliative and terminal care.

Nurses, physicians and other palliative care workers, aromatherapists, massage therapists and herbalists alike will find a wealth of well founded information on aromacare and the way some 30 essential oils and a small but well chosen range of base oils and other base substances can be used in end of life care.

you will find a full chapter on simple but wholesome massage techniques and a chapter on aquacare, which allows you to offer patients the great benefits of warm compresses, washings, affusions and baths. Also a short chapter on possible implementation routes is incorporated.

All other chapters will offer you comprehensive information on symptoms in palliative stages, such as pain, dyspnoea, nausea, itch, wound and mouth care, anxiety, depression, sleeplessness and spiritual issues. You will find background information on these symptoms and how complementary nursing care can be of enormous value to the quality of life and dying.

I am honoured to share my passion, expertise, skills and recipes with you to make aromacare and complementary interventions in palliative care as accessible as possible. I sincerely hope that you, with the assistance of this book may help to spread professional and well founded complementary nursing care across the globe to enhance wellbeing of patients and their loved ones in the last stages of life.

-Madeleine.
