Sweetgrass Hydrosol

Hierochloe odorata

Sweetgrass Hydrosol

The aroma of Sweetgrass Hydrosol is pleasantly fresh, sweet and green. It reminds me of the aroma of dried sweetgrass braids.

Sweetgrass is amongst the dried botanicals that are traditionally used by Native Americans during smudging rituals. Sweetgrass is thought to cleanse a room, ground it, and make the space sacred. Unlike smudge burned in bundles, sweetgrass is generally braided into sections that are approximately 12" in length.

Botanical Name

Hierochloe odorata

Sweetgrass Braids

Aromatic Strength

Mild-Medium

Shelf Life

Up to 2 years if stored properly (refrigeration is recommended).

Reported Properties, Uses and Applications

Little documentation is available about Sweetgrass Hydrosol. I traditionally use the hydrosol in place of burning braided sweetgrass before meditation to help me focus upon clearing negativity from my space or at times when I want to cleanse and purify a room.
